Saudi Arabia
sends vital humanitarian assistance to flood-stricken Sudan
RIYADH: Two aircraft carrying shelter, food
and medical aid left Riyadh on Sunday for flood-stricken Sudan. The King Salman
Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) airlift is being directed by a
specialized team that will supervise the distribution process. More than 60
people are believed to have died in flash flooding that left almost 200,000
people homeless. At least 37,000 homes in the country have been destroyed or
damaged, according to the UN.
Last month, Saudi Arabia delivered 260 tons of
dates to the UN World Food Program (WFP) for distribution to needy people in
Honduras.
Officials in Tegucigalpa, the capital of the
Latin American country, praised the assistance offered by KSRelief.
As part of the WFP, the center also delivered
260 tons of dates to Nicaragua.
Also, the center launched a project to build
and repair agricultural terraces in the Helmeen district in LuHajj governorate
in Yemen.
