GCC, UK discuss free trade deal, economic ties

Kuwait: GCC Secretary General Jasem Al-Budaiwi met with UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Hamish Falconer late Thursday to discuss enhancing bilateral ties. The two sides also discussed several topics, including the latest developments in the negotiations for a free trade agreement between the GCC and the UK, as well as the recent developments in the Middle East, particularly the Zionist occupation’s serious violations against civilians in Gaza, and the impact of this crisis on regional and global security and stability, said the GCC General Secretariat in a statement on Friday.

It added that both parties underscored the importance of the Zionist occupation facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. It also noted that both sides affirmed the necessity of resolving this crisis in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and discussed ways to address regional challenges and enhance stability and security in the region.

During his time in London, Budaiwi also met with Lord Michael Mainelli, Lord Mayor of the City of London. During the meeting, several topics of mutual interest were discussed, particularly those related to financial and economic matters, as well as investment cooperation between the GCC countries and the United Kingdom, the GCC Secretariat General said in a statement. The two sides also explored ways to enhance economic partnership and expand cooperation in trade, energy, and innovation, as well as available investment and economic opportunities that would serve mutual interests and support sustainable development for both parties, it added.
