Late Sultan Qaboos bin Saud funds training for 150,000 Omani students

Oman: One hundred and fifty thousand Omani students are set to benefit from training programmes funded by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who passed away earlier this month.

According to a report from the official Oman News Agency (ONA) the training, to help students enter the world of work and prepare them as part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, will be organised under the National Youth Programme for skills development.

The ONA did not disclose how much funding has been set aside for the training, which will be held over the next five years, although a report in The National estimated the cost at somewhere in the region of $16.9 million.

“The programme seeks to prepare young adults with the attitudes, skills and knowledge needed to deal with different life situations, based on merging modern concepts with the digital educational content in an entertaining and inspiring manner,” the ONA said.

The programme will be implemented at different stages to secondary school students in grade 10 and 11 selected from different schools in Oman.
