KISR promotes sustainable agriculture, food security
Kuwait:
The Acting Director General
of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), Dr Meshaan Al-Otaibi,
affirmed on Tuesday the keenness of Kuwait to enhance regional and international
cooperation in the field of sustainable management of genetic resources, in line
with the country’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, biodiversity
preservation, and food security.
Al-Otaibi said that the forum aims to enhance the position of Kuwait in the
field of preserving plant resources, enhancing local and global food security,
and opening areas of cooperation, noting that this international event will
position Kuwait as a leading partner in the responsible management of plant
genetic resources in the region.

the director of the biotechnology program at the Environment and Life Sciences
Research Center and chairman of the organizing committee of the forum, Dr Fadila
Al-Salameen, stated in a similar speech that the recipient will focus on
reviewing and revising the second global plan of action for plant genetic
resources for food and agriculture.
Al-Salameen noted that a national committee on genetic resources would be
established and policies would be developed for the exchange of experiences, the
exploitation of genetic resources, and the sharing of their benefits at the
local and international levels.
She pointed out that the work of the regional meeting, which will continue until
the 11th of this month, will confirm the interest of the state and its
scientific institutions in protecting biodiversity, supporting food security
plans, and good use of resources, in addition to strengthening national efforts
to build closer regional cooperation and comprehensive assessment of plant
genetic resources for food and agriculture. — KUNA
